HyperMED Patient Update - Jessi Rae Clarke

"This is what we have seen after 64 hours treatment:

We; Craig, myself, a number of family members and close friends have noticed the following:

First noticed that her hands were ‘softer’ - by this I mean she doesn’t have them fisted up so much and even when they are it is easier to open up her fingers than it ever has been before. Granted she still fists up sometimes and there are still times that I cannot open them but nowhere near as often as prior to treatment. This was noticed after only 16 hours treatment. Craig was first to notice it and my step-father also mentioned it before he heard Craig say so. One thing I am finding really nice about it is she now will sit with me and have her hands relaxed and resting on mine. This is something I have never really felt before. It truly is a precious feeling. : )

The next thing people started commenting on was she was much more alert. Jessi never used to take a whole lot of notice of things around her but now she will sit on my knee and really look around with interest at things. I really first noticed it at a friends house one night (after 44 hours treatment). We were all sitting around the table and Jessi was sitting with me moving her head, looking from person to person and studying them one by one quite intently. She will also turn her head to sounds now much more than she ever has before, where once a loud sound would make her jump and close up her eyes she will now usually turn her head in the direction of the sound to see what it was. About a week after treatment finished we were at my sisters house, who was having the place renovated, and I watched Jessi, who was being held by Craig, looking at the guy doing the plastering. She was watching the way he put the putty on the trowel, then followed it up to the roof and watched it as it went back and forth along the joins and then followed it back down and continued to watch while he put more putty on and so on, this held her attention for quite some time as she watched with wonder on her face as if thinking about what he was doing and what the point of it all was! She would never have held her attention for that long before. In fact her concentration prior to HBOT was fairly average, she would get her eyes onto something and it wasn’t long before they would drift away and whatever she was looking at would be forgotten straight away. Her concentration and interest in things has increased 10-fold. She now notices people usually straight away - there was a time when she didn’t really take notice of anyone much unless they were right in her face.

With regard to her improved concentration I have watched her a number of times, since HBOT, grasp a toy and then hold onto it for more than a few minutes while she moves it back and forth to her mouth. When she misses she moves her hand across to correct it and gets it to her mouth the next time. : ) While in the past Jessi has tried to grab things without much success, when she finally did get hold of something she would lift it towards her mouth and more often than not it would drop out of her hand on the way there or otherwise soon after, once that happened she would be over it and her concentration lost. She now seems to be much more interested in toys etc. - there have only ever been a few that she really cared about now she seems to like them all.

Jessi still is unable to hold her head up all the time. She can hold it up but it falls to the side often and also falls forward a lot as well. Since treatment Jess now tries ever so much harder to keep it up as much as she can. It truly is beautiful to watch her ‘nodding’ away as she tries with all her might to keep her head up. Fingers crossed for her she masters it once and for all and can keep her head up all the time.

While Jessi is a happy little girl she has never laughed easily. There were some days that she wouldn’t laugh if I didn’t get down with her and make her laugh by tickling her or carrying on in her face. She now will giggle at the slightest of things - I have to just look at her sometimes and she’ll start giggling, she also does this with other people as well which I have never really noticed before. In addition to this she is much more vocal, again there were days where she wouldn’t make much noise. She now makes much more noise and has come out with some sounds that have amazed us all.

Jess will receive another 48 hours HBOT in August, we look forward to see how she responds to the next round.

Kindest regards,

Ange, Craig and Jessi - i have attached a pic of Jess and the boys from May.
